Master Lu's Teachings The Power to Fulfill Master Lu said: I think the most important thing for us, as humans, is to
obtain the power to fulfill things. This power is the authentic spirit, the living spirit that classics refer to when they use the word „virtue". Nowadays, people think that „virtue" is about moral issues. That's a grave error! There's nothing moral in virtue, except for the power to fulfill. Power is gained by cultivating the inner self, that is by removing obstacles.
We have here the quintessence of the antique Taoist teaching resumed by the Master. What is the significance of this teaching? We need the accord with Tao, but we also need spiritual force. The spiritual force is the inner strength, the creative force in man leading him to fulfillment. Without Tao, that is without the support of Heaven, our actions lamentably fail. Without spirit or virtue, the result is the same: failure. We need both.
Unfortunately, modern man places an equal sign between virtue and morality and replaces the action in the real world with the expectance of a mystical recognition by cultivating the goodwill towards his neighbors and the good deeds. A huge error! The second teaching could be an allusion to a story of Lieh-tzu, published in his book, "The Classic of the Perfect Emptiness". This story talks about
the cultivation of the inner strength or the vitality through the simple fact of letting oneself go. |
